La limandi
my wedding dress
Hey! Did you know I got wed?? Now you do! I did it in August and I'm telling you this because (well this is my blog I can tell my whole life if I want to) I'm going to tell you about my wedding dress.
At first we wanted a Medieval wedding but next year and we decided months ago that we wanted to do it earlier. And that's how this dress came out. I didn't want a big dress that I could only wear once nor something too wedding-y and I wanted to be able to wear it separately in the everyday life (but most of all I wanted it to be as cheap as it could be).
The long dress came to me first: I wanted something flowy and see-through. The first idea was a high-low skirt but I didn't want to sew a curved hem (it's a pain to sew a curved hem. Don't judge me!).So I choose a simple maxi dress with an opening at the front.
I did what I do most often when I need fabric : I go to Mathusalem (see my last post for more info) and asked for veil and Aimée came with a big curtain that fitted my expectations. It was big and large and just as see-through as I needed it (I think she gave it to me as a wedding gift). I bought buttons and lace and I was done for the shopping.
For the rest of the outfit, I wanted a jumper that I sewed and was up for the wedding but I changed my mind last minute.

This is what it should have looked like. I like it too, it's pretty and all but, two day before the day, I dreamed of a pencil skirt and the morning of the wedding (you're reading it the same morning as the wedding), I discovered some unstitched part on the jumper (a tini-tiny part like a centimeter) and so I decided 2hours before the wedding to sew my pencil skirt. (yes rather than sewing the unstitched part).
I did it! An hour before, I was done with the skirt .

For the top I tell you nothing since it is the purple top of last outfit which I have spoken here on the blog, with a knot hanging over the back. Initially it was to be on the skirt but it was even more lovely as it is now ...

And then I thought about accessories! I had a necklace that I forgot for the big day. It did not please me anyway. It is very nice (don't worry), but it did not suit what I had in mind.
HOWEVER I wanted gloves. But I did not feel like learning how to make gloves (mitten with finger holes) and as a result I randomly made a sewing pattern (yes ma'am, yes sir !!!). I cut and sewed all within the veil.
It was a bit blah so I added lace. I also added the elastic on the hand and arms contour and a buckle for the finger. and voilàà.
For the skirt (the long one ), it was a matter of simply cutting the length that I wished (from my wait to 3 cm above ground -heels included-) and cutting a belt of 10 cm width and my waist length + 2cm .I then gathered the fabric to fit inside the belt. After sewing the belt to the rest, I hemmed the remaining three sides. A small piece of cloth to add a button and voila.

Sometimes I wear it alone. Well, not alone but with leggings or pants or with another skirt . In short, this is my favorite part of my wedding dress.

The little skirt that was born an hour before the wedding, is a classic pencil skirt in a fine cotton jersey. I had to double it so it's not transparent. The only complaint I will make is that I made it too short (I believe isat on my panties all night). I will add it a big lace trim when I have time.
If you want to learn how to make a pencil skirt (not too short eh), I will soon put you a tutorial in two parts on the Youtube channel. It will be followed by an article on a skirt made into a big ugly top.
So much for this unconventional dress. Just to let you quantify the price of my complete outfit here is the detail of it and to support my last two articles on second-hand purchases:
- The top: already in my closet (2 € fabric)
- Short skirt : 2 € fabric
- The long skirt: given tissue (but 2 € the meter so could have cost me 4€)
- Footwear : 12 € (on sale for heels) and 7 € for sandals
- Jewelery : offered by my best friend
- Lace : 2€ (and I still have so much ....)
total cost of the complete kit (not but I insist anyway) = 25 € not including the veil ...
Finally, I announce that I now have Snapchat (@la_limandi), an Etsy shop (which you can reach from this blog by clicking here or on "limandi shop" and a new facebook page. I'm on Instagram as usual. Until then I wish you a good day! Bye !!
