buttons and second hand purchases

Hello you ! So first, I wanted to apologize for the absence. I left my job to build my business and I was reorganizing my work time. August was a great month for me since I was training for La Limandi,it is the month of my birthday and I got married too (yay !!!). In short all this chat means  that you progressively will see more videos and articles.
But we are not here for that.

I wanted to tell you about second-hand purchases regarding the sewing materials like fabrics and buttons. I speak of this because I sewed my wedding dress and I would not have been able to without this . And there are many things that you can buy without it being new.

As a specific and recent example, I can tell you about the buttons. I often go to garage sales around to see if there are buttons and spools of thread. I don't know if you know the price of new buttons but I find it quite expensive for a small piece of molded plastic (with holes in it  !! outrageous!)

First, look at the buttons you can see through the jar (no, you can never empty it to watch each button on the stand) and tip from my darling (or should I say my husband), if there is 5 buttons you like, take it.
If none appeal to you, shake the jar, because the prettiest buttons are in the middle. And if there is only one you like, and you see his buddy, take it (in fact take it whatever happens).
Then, if you still have any doubts, open the jar (no we still don't empty it on the stand), and take in a handful just to look  and look in your hand and in the jar because that is where the wonders of this bunch of buttons are .
I took the jar because two pairs of buttons pleased me and that's enough, especially for € 2.

Why I agree with buttons jars?

1- There is ALWAYS wonders that will not be found in haberdashery or we'll find costly

2- The story I like to think those buttons were traveling on too worn clothes and were removed before the garment is discarded.

3-It reminds me of my childhood

Sure, there will be broken ones (it's sad but it's really a tiny percentage of it), there will be some dirty or ugly buttons , some on their own and others with 8 friends. No you can not choose the color or the exact shape of your buttons, but you'll find small wonders or buttons that should never have existed (but not really)
If you do not like the randomness of this , you can always turn to the flea markets and the charity shops.

I buy almost all my fabric 2 € per meter (no need to say that I enjoy myself), but when I want something specific, before going into a major brand, I turn to the coffee-flea market in my town: Mathusalem. I'll speak to you about this place in next week's article .

Search your city, there is inevitably a place that sells second-hand items, and if there is not (move out :p), you can always find seamstresses's flea markets or garage sales (usually all that is between April and October).

Earlier this month at the annual garage sale my town, I found a jar filled with 1.5L of all sizes buttons for 2 €, on the stand of a lady who sold patronnages and button pads. I grabbed the jar and I'll explain how I manage to know if I get the jar or not.

So, I leave you to your city exploration to find such places. Bye!
